There was drama at the Garissa County Assembly after a section of members of the County Assembly walked out of house during governor Ali Roba’s speech. According to The Star, the MCAs reportedly left the house in protest against appointments in the executive. The lawmakers lamented that appointments do not reflect the will of the people of Garissa, citing nepotism and clans lines among other reasons.

The legislators, who were elected on Economic Freedom Party, caused commotion as they walked out of the house while the county boss was outlining his five-year plan for the people of the region. Led by majority leader Abdi Hassan Ali the leaders lamented that the governor had sidelined them in matters affecting the common mwananchi, adding that they will not tolerate it.

In his speech, Roba called upon the MCAs to forget the past and work to improve the lives of the residents. He also promised to serve the people without any form of fear or favor.

“Mandera is for all of us and everybody has a say in the running of the county affairs through public participation and assembly debates, “he said, as quoted by the local daily.
