Kisumu MCAs on Tuesday unanimously voted to divert the Sh175 million that was meant for construction of Ward offices.
The MCAs now want the Sh5 million that was allocated for each ward under the Ward Development Fund to be re-allocated to other projects.
East Seme Ward MCA Aggrey Ogosi who moved the Motion said there were several interests in the projects thus causing delays in implementation.
Ogosi said under the prevailing circumstances there was no need to continue with the projects.
“We have seen what has been done to this money, continuous withdrawal of the money has been the order of the day,” he said.
Majority of the MCAs supported the Motion saying the Ward Development Fund had been riddled with a lot of controversies thus the need to stop the construction of the offices.
Migosi Ward MCA Paul Achayo supported the Motion saying the money should be used to maintain roads in the wards instead.
Speaker of the day Pamela Omino directed that the Ward development Fund Committee at the executive should be notified on the ruling of the Assembly within seven days.
She said the Assembly agreed that the construction of the offices be stopped and the Sh5 miilion be used in projects in the wards after consulting the locals.
