A section of Machakos County MCAs have challenged their Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua to step aside to allow smooth investigations on the corruption allegations against him.
Speaking on Thursday evening outside the County Assembly buildings, Wamunyu Ward MCA Peter Kyuli and Festus Ndeto of Kola Ward expressed their dissatisfaction with Governor Dr. Mutua’s presence in the office despite the allegations.
MCA Ndeto who is also the County Assembly’s treasurer stated examples of other leaders who had heeded to the President Uhuru Kenyatta’s call of stepping aside from office by all leaders in public offices whose names are in the EACC report.
“So far there are leaders who have shown respect to their people by stepping aside from their positions. Senator Mike Mbuvi ‘Sonko’ of Nairobi on Wednesday also announced that he has stepped aside to allow for investigations. It is disrespect to Machakos people for Dr. Mutua to remain in office even after the President’s directives,” said Ndeto.
MCA Kyul backed Ndeto’s words stating that President Kenyatta should make sure that his directives are followed to the latter in the situation where those named fail to step aside.
This came a few hours after the County Deputy governor Bernard Kiala held a press conference outside his office and disputed allegations that he had planned and incited a demonstration from the town centre to the governor’s office to force him out of the office.
“I respect Governor Dr. Mutua and the allegations to force him out of office are not true, however I support our President’s speech and his directives, but it is up to the Governor Dr. Mutua to decide to step aside and not by being forced by anyone,” said Kiala.
