Umoja One MCA, Njoroge Maina has introduced a bill, Paper Bags Bill 2016.
The bill is set to reduce the usage of plastic bags that have been rated as the highest environment pollutants in Nairobi County.
The Bill is set to introduce levies to paper bags and bottles manufacturers. This has been seen as a step in reducing the usage of the plastic materials.
"The plastic issue has been a thorn in the flesh for a long time for Nairobi County and this bill is set to come up with a measure to curb wanton garbage in the city," said Maina.
Once the Bill is ascended to shoppers and other users of plastic material will be forced to seek for other materials to use. Retail shops will also have to look for other materials to serve their customers as it was identified that they are the frequent users of the plastic materials.
The MCA also attributed the frequent of Nairobi city due to the pollution by the plastic material and has called on the other MCAs to pass the bill that will see the city benefit from a pollution free environment.
