The elders led by Paul Osumo and Evans Kebengi said they wanted the MCAs to exercise their oversight role effectively to ensure that they detect any misappropriation of public funds at an early stage.

On his part, Osumo called on the MCAs to overhaul the leadership of the County Assembly starting with the Majority and Minority leaders, Assembly Speaker and the Clerk so as to safeguard public money.

He regretted that if the same people were put in office, then they would mobilize the residents to kick them out of office come 2022.

“We don’t want to see misuse of county funds while the newly Mcas are watching as we want them to keep eye on governor Nyagarama so that Nyamira can be named as one of the  fastest growing county overall come 2022,” he added.

While Kebengi appealed to Governor John Nyagarama to sack the County Executive Members who were implicated in mega corruption for the populace to have confidence with his government.

“In the last government, public funds were lost in scandals which are still under investigation by the Anti –corruption Commission and we do not want a repeat of the same in the new Assembly,” said Kebengi.

He added that as the elders in Nyamira County they will constantly remind the MCAs of their duty if they by any chance get it wrong on the way.

The elders were speaking while holding a meeting at Nyamira county hall on Thursday noon.
