The Members of the Kisii County Assembly have been urged to ensure that bursary given to the wards by the county government helps needy students and orphans. Speaking to students in Ichuni Girls’ Secondary school, Kisii County Governor James Ongwae said that he has set aside Sh135 million for bursary with each ward set to receive Sh3 million to help needy children. He said that in the last financial year, the county government had set aside Sh45 million for bursary with each ward receiving one million but it has now been increased to Sh3 million shillings per ward. “The county government has in this financial year increased the bursary funds to Sh3 million per ward. I want to ask MCAs to ensure that this money helps those students who cannot afford to pay school fees,” said the governor. Ichuni Girls' Secondary school is one of the schools that performed well in last year’s KCSE exams scoring a mean grade of 9.8. The principal of the school Joyce Orioki thanked the 2014 candidates and promised to keep up the spirit of giving better results.
