Members of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a motion urging the executive arm of county government to set up a County Museum.
This is in what the MCA's said will help promote the better understanding of the county's heritage and culture.
While moving the motion, nominated MCA Leah Malot lamented that the county had no policy in place that provides guidelines on issues related to preservation of various communities cultural activities.
"With the Museum in place, it will ensure current and even future generations understand and appreciate the various cultures that we have in this county," Malot said.
The motion was seconded by Megun MCA Julius Kibet who pointed out that setting up the county Museum would also help attract both local and international tourists.
All the MCA's who contributed to the motion supported it saying it would also help create job opportunities for the locals.
"The nearest Museum we have around this region is the one in Kitale about 70 kilometers away and it will be a perfect opportunity for us to have ours so that we can also get a share of the income from tourists," said Sergoit MCA David Keitany who is also the Assembly's Trade Committee chairman.
The motion will now be forwarded to the executive arm of county government for consideration and implementation by the Department of Education, Sports, Culture and Social Services.
