The County Assembly of Uasin Gishu on Tuesday passed a motion urging the county government to develop a plan that will see Chebororwa Agricultural Training Center (ATC) modernized into a fully fledged agricultural training institute for the county.
In a motion by the Assembly's Agriculture Committee chairman Joel Rugut, the MCAs said Chebororwa ATC should be a center offering training and extension services to the locals.
"It is part of the CIDP that this particular facility is a center for training of farmers on good practices and that can only be attained if equipped with modern facilities," said the Kipsomba MCA.
Cheptiret/Kipchamo MCA Gilbert Tenai seconded the motion which he said will go a long way towards improving the agriculture sector in the county subsequently impacting positively on the locals livelihoods.
"During the address to this Assembly, the governor said Agriculture will be among his priority areas and I believe with the modernization of the Cheborowa ATC our farmers will get training on the best practices that will help improve their income and economy," said Tenai who is also the Assembly's Deputy Majority Whip.
Majority of the MCA's supported the motion noting that Uasin Gishu is an agricultural county and the locals need to supported by the county government in any way possible.
"Farmers need to be trained on value addition to improve the durability and standard of the products, a task that Cheborowa ATC can perfectly do is modernized into a fully fledged agricultural training institute," noted Leah Malot nominated MCA.
