Members of County Assemblies from Garissa have lamented over what they termed as being sidelined by the government in the exercise of repatriation of refugees back to their home countries.
Led by Fafi MCA Mustafa Abdirashid, the 20 MCAs said that the government had deliberately decided to ignore their input in the entire repatriation exercise even as their wards host the more than 200 000 refugees.
Mr Abdirashid whose ward hosts Kambioos and Hagardera refugee camps said that UNHCR and its implementing partners had not explained to them what they had in store for the refugees and asked the government to explain what the fate was for the Kenyans who have been wrongly registered as refugees.
On his part Jarajila MCA Mahat Osman urged the government to think of how it would compensate the host communities saying that their land had greatly been destroyed by refugee activities.
The Kenyan government still maintains that the repatriation exercise will still go on as planned.
