Nominated MCA representing PLWDs, Caroline Agwanda, said that the disabled residents normally have a difficult time accessing the facilities in hotels and public toilets.

She noted that most toilets in the county are not disability-friendly and they disadvantage the PLWDs.

Speaking at a forum held in Kisumu themed “Making Kisumu A Disability-Friendly Zone”, the MCA asked Governor Ranguma to include the public toilets for the disabled in the next budgeting.

Agwanda said that the current standard toilets was risking the lives of the disabled as they may trip and fall.

“We do not have public toilets in Kisumu that are specially built for the disabled and this is really dangerous for the disabled residents. We are also residents of Kisumu County and therefore should not be neglected as we are also legitimate voters in Kisumu,”she said.

At the same time, nominted MCA Lydia Odhiambo asked the county government to provide tissue papers to public schools in the county to improve on hygiene.

Odhiambo said that the move could go a long way in curbing disease such as typhoid and cholera.
