Members of Murang’a County Assembly want Murang’a University of Technology renamed the Kenneth Matiba University of Technology as an honor of the fallen veteran politician.

Francis Kibe, Ithiru ward MCA, introduced the motion before house's Tuesday sitting. His motion was welcomed positively by the house members who believed that renaming the university would ensure Matiba’s legacy lives on for coming generations. The house business was later suspended for the members to attend Matiba's funeral

“The late Kenneth Matiba was the facilitator behind Murang’a University College. He contributed a lot of money to have the institution started and established. It will be in order for the institution to be named after Kenneth Matiba,” said Kibe

 The veteran politician Kenneth Matiba died Sunday evening at the age of 85 after he was hospitalized for 55 days.

Matiba will be remembered by many for his role in the struggle for multi-party democracy in Kenya.

In another event, Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata, proposed that water projects be name after Matiba. He said the projects were always close to Matiba's heart, thus making it necessary to name the projects as Kenneth Matiba Water Project

Meanwhile, Murang’ residents will benefit from free services at the Kenneth Matiba Eye and Dental Clinic for one week, which is also regarded as an honor for the veteran politician
