A section of Mombasa MCAs have termed the State’s move to withdraw Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi security detail as a scheme to marginalise areas opposed to the Jubilee rule.

Speaking at the county assembly, the MCAs termed the decision as unacceptable.

The MCAs claimed Joho and Kingi were being punished for dressing down President Uhuru Kenyatta during his state visit in the region.

According to The Star, the MCAs threatened to take to the streets after finding out the State had also withdrawn Kilifi Speaker Jimmy Kahindi’s security.

Kahindi confirmed that his security officer was ordered to return his firearm and wait for further directive from the government.

The MCAs also said residents from different parts of the county are willing to join them in the protests.

The government, however, reinstated the duo's security on Tuesday.
