Elburgon MCA Florence Wambui Njoroge has raised concern over the rise in bhang and cocaine use in the area.

Wambui claimed the illicit liquor in the area had now been replaced by the hard drugs, and was being peddled in broad daylight.

She added that many of area youth are now trapped into such addiction following the supply cut from liquor.

“Many of the parents now have to deal with bhang smoking as they have to look for an alternative to the alcohol that they were used to taking,” she added.

Speaking to journalists in Elburgon on Thursday, Njoroge said many youth have already expressed the desire to quit smoking but don't know how to go about it.

“Many have approached me and sought treatment and hence the reason why we are appealing to Nacada to work with local youths at grassroots more,” she added.

This, she pointed out, was the only way to know where the drugs are supplied from.

“Youth are very open and they will be willing to tell anyone where they bought them from if especially they do not feel condemned. There is need to save this generation. We have buried more than ten youth from the area due to the illicit brews,” she added.
