[Photo/GlobalHealth]The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has partnered with The Aga Khan University School of Media and Communications (GSMC) to study how new technologies have impacted journalism.The research aims to offer fresh insights into challenges and opportunities associated with new skills among scribes and how they impact news organizations.
IPSOS Synovate is participating in the initiative as the implementing partner.Michael Meyer, the founding dean at GSMC said, “Based on the findings, GSMC will design and develop programmes that will address the gaps and needs of journalists.”Main purpose of the study is to target journalists currently working in Kenya, and will seek to establish what technologies they are using as well as the level of technology adoption and technology habits among them.This is primarily an online survey targeting professionals working in different platforms including radio, print, online and television said, Mr. Meyer.There was also need to introduce training to media practitioners who do not have formal journalism training David Omwoyo MCK chief executive said.He said the country needs journalism that makes itself heard, raises the quality of public debate and empowers citizens to think for themselves.
