The Media Council of Kenya has blasted the political class saying they disrespect Kenyan voters.

Speaking Wednesday in an interview with the KTN News, the council's deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Victor Bwire said it was unfortunate that senior politicians had decided to boycott a debate on flimsy grounds contrary to the expectations of Kenyans.

"It is very obvious that the political class disrespects voters in this country. That's why they find it unnecessary to attend such a noble exercise," he said.

He added that politicians who do not want to be scrutinized by the media through an interactive platform do not want to be accountable to Kenyans on their promises and decisions.

Bwire advised the media to also be firm in dealing with politicians on order to be taken seriously saying some politicians were seeing the media as toothless dogs.

The much hyped running mates debate that was scheduled for last Monday failed to live up to expectations after majority of the running mates staged a no show with only one of them turning up much to the chagrin of Kenyans.
