The media regulator has voiced concerns over the increased cases of journalists being assaulted by politicians.
In a press statement to newsrooms on Wednesday, Media Council of Kenya chairman Haron Mwangi lamented that journalists were going through rough times in the hands of politicians, and called upon the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko and the police to take action against politicians found engaging in the vice.
Mwangi added that in just a span of two weeks, the council had received complaints from four journalists over harassment claims with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) being the most notorious.
"Such a trend is very worrying especially now that the elections are here with us and must be stopped to guarantee freedom of the media," read part of the statement.
