Mean Machine’s 40 year domination in the Kenya Cup ended on Saturday after they fell 12-21 away to Top Fry Nakuru.

Mean Machine debuted in the Kenya Cup in 1977 and clinched the title that season.

They later dominated the Kenya rugby scene and produced great players including Absaloms Mutere, Chief Edebe, Cliff Mukulu, Arigi Obiero and Allan “Steele Pulse” Gohole.

The trend however began  to go down in the nineties, with the game evolving to take new rules.

Mean Machine also suffered player exodus at the time, something that took them to a mid-table team.

Their fortunes continued to dwindle in the new century and at last, they have bowed out into the second tier, where fans say they might stay for only a season before coming back to the senior league.
