Uasin Gishu County government has put measures in place to prevent spreading of foot and mouth disease, which has been reported in the county.
Speaking in his office on Wednesday, CeC in charge of Agriculture Cyril Cheruiyot said the county government has banned auction and transportation of livestock from other counties to stop its spread.
"We have received reports of the outbreak of the disease in the county, and we are putting all measures to calm the situation and avoid it from spreading," he said.
He said his Ministry has used Sh9 million to buy medicine, which will be used to vaccinate animals against the disease.
"I urge farmers to bring their animals for vaccination and this time we will charge them Sh80 instead of Sh50 since the drugs are very expensive," he said.
He also urged farmers to join cooperatives and saccos to have a big bargaining power in terms of purchasing farm inputs at subsidised prices.
