Residents of Nyandarua county are up in arms over increased theft of donkeys.

They said donkeys are being stolen and slaughtered with fears the meat is penetrating local markets in Nakuru, KInangop, Nyandarua and Burma Nairobi.

Ol Kalou police boss Ngao Ndolo urged locals to volunteer any relevant information to help in investigations.

"Anyone with reliable information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits behind the theft and slaughtering of the animals should inform the police", said Ndolo.

Meat lovers were cautioned to check on the kind of flesh they buy from local butchers.
