NCIC Chairman Francis Ole Kaparo has blamed the media for the increased cases of politicians involved in propagating hate speech.
He said the media encourages other politicians to engage in incitement by airing hate remarks.
"The media should be an instrument meant to unite Kenyans and not to be used by politicians to spread hate speech for their own personal gains," he said.
Kaparo added that politicians always use the media to abuse each other on political and religious affiliations.
Speaking during the North Rift leaders breakfast peace meeting organised by Christ is the Answer Ministry (Citam) on Friday, Kaparo said the media is in a position to either unite or divide the country since they command a large audience.
"NCIC will next week sign a memorandum with the Media Council of Kenya which will ensure that all media houses report positively, and anyone going against it will be arrested," he said.
He however called upon media houses to be instruments of peace and avoid giving politicians plat forms to divide Kenyans.
"As leaders, lets give Kenyans hope, bring them together and not putting them a sunder, since everyone has the right to live in Kenya," he said.
He also gave a warning to hate mongers that their days are numbered and will soon be brought to book.
The meeting brought together both political and religious leaders from the North Rift.
