The media has been challenged to practice responsible reporting as Kenyans prepare for the forthcoming General Election.ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru says the media ought to give blackouts to messages of hate, calling on journalists to be vigilant in their coverage of political campaigns.
Mucheru also revealed plans by the government to revamp the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation to enhance its capacity in its efforts to accomplish its mandate as the public broadcaster.
As Kenyan media fraternity joins the world in marking the world press freedom day, emphasis is being put on the need for journalists to practice responsible reporting.
Mucheru is now calling on members of the fourth estate to avoid giving audience to persons out to create division among Kenyans.The Cabinet Secretary denied claims that the government was out to stifle press freedom by denying media companies access to government advertisements.
Mucheru said the government will revamp public broadcaster Kenya Broadcasting Corporation to enhance its capacity.The world Press Freedom Day is marked on 3rd of May to create awareness on the struggles journalists face in the line of duty.
