Economist and Nasa policy Chief David Ndii has castigated the mainstream media for what he has termed as 'propagating the spread of fake news because they no longer cross-check facts.'
Ndii who has been a columnist for the Saturday Nation has said that the Kenyan media is nowadays more interested in spreading sensational news, a trend he warns could turn disastrous during this electioneering season. He also accuses the media of highlighting less important things while ignoring those 'that matter to the nation' and citizens in general."The Kenyan media seems to be hellbent on spreading fake news more than ever before and they don't seem to care that we are in a very critical electioneering period. Highlighting the non-essential things that matter less to citizens is now the order of the day," Ndii told NTV on Sunday evening.Ndii cited the recent reports that Nasa had two manifestos, which elicited a big debate among Kenyans, saying that the whole thing was 'created, ignited and spread by the sensational media'.He noted that the media was no longer 'analytical' in its reporting and the way it presents news to respective audiences has turned 'shallow and slanted'.
