Mutua on Saturday said the coverage escalates fear among Kenyans and could spark violence.

He said images and video clips of the protests glorifies the situation and undermines the values and morals of the society.

“My appeal to the media and journalists is for them to stop covering the weekly protests being championed by opposition leaders,” Mutua said in a statement on Saturday.

The KFCB boss indicated that that through coverage, the 'ugly protests' are being watched all over the world and could keep away investors.

He said the media has the ethical responsibility not to air chaotic protests.

“Kenyans are getting anxious and afraid of the chaotic scenes they see and read on the media,” he said.

Mutua expressed fears that unless the media minimises the coverage of such scene, chaos like the ones experienced during the disputed 2007/2008 elections may occur.

Mutua called on the Media Council of Kenya (MCK), the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) and Media Owners to urgently address the matter before it gets out of hand.

The last Monday chaotic protests were covered by several international media houses, with anti-riot police being on the spot for allegedly using excessive force on the protesters.

The officers were captured brutally beating up protesters during the demonstrations.

Several leaders and human rights organisations have condemned the brutality.
