Media practitioners have been urged to understand their digital rights in order to avoid the wrangles between them and the state.
Addressing a media workshop in Nakuru on Tuesday, guest speaker Riva Jalipa said journalists and human rights defenders are facing hard times especially when they try to demand accountability from the government.
According to him, most journalists and human rights defenders are becoming victims of digital surveillance.
"With the internet and digital platforms taking another level, those at risk are journalists as well as human rights defenders whose rights are at times violated,"she said.
The stakeholder called on on players in the media industry to ensure that such workshops are held frequently to enable journalists to understand their digital rights.
The workshop organized by ARTICLE 19 and National Coalition for Human Rights Defenders brought together over 30 journalists and several human rights defenders.
