The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has commissioned a new dispensary in Kondele ward in a rapid move to integrate medical training and community service.
The new facility will go a long way in providing medical care to Kondele residents who are usually compelled to seek medical services at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) which is already having its services overstretched.
Kisumu County Deputy Governor Mathew Owili presided over the commissioning of the facility on Wednesday and he was flanked by Health County Executive Rosemary Obara.
“This facility will give Kondele residents a new berth on how they access medical services. It is true that within Kondele ward there is not even a single public health facility,” DG Owili revealed.
Owili and Obara assured the residents that the County government was keen on ensuring that the residents get proper and affordable medical attention.
The duo conceded that it was the sole responsibility of the county to ensure that all citizens had access to decent health services.
They notedthat the facility will get constant support from the county which included getting equipment and competent personnel in a bid to ease the congestion witnessed at JOOTRH.
"We want JOOTRH to only be dedicated to handling complicated medical cases and not to those ailments ones which can be handled in clinics," the county officials stated.
The School Principal Dr Kelly Oluoch assured the county residents that the newly refurbished and developed clinic is primed to be a centre of excellence of medical education while delivering world-class medical services to the residents.
