The student was in the company of his two colleagues who sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral hospital.

A student, John Ochieng who witnessed the accident said the students were crossing the road to their college after making some purchases from a roadside kiosk when the accident occurred.

“The driver lost control and hit the students as they crossed over to the college. We need a bump here and drivers must know that this is an institution,” he said.

The driver which is reported to be over speeding lost control and rammed into the students as they cross the road killing one on the spot.

The lorry veered off the road but did not roll. The driver escaped moments after the accident. Irate students set the lorry on fire as they barricaded the bypass road burning tyres on the road.

Police later moved in to quell the students who were planning to paralyse transport along Kisumu-Kakamega Road at Kondele area.

They were forced to lobby teargas to disperse the rowdy students.
