Officers from the Anti Terror Police Unit have arrested two medical students said to be linked to the ISIS terror group.
The suspects, Mohamed Yerrow and Abdulrazak Abdinuur, were on Sunday nabbed in a joint operation in their hide out in Malindi, Kilifi County.
Yerrow who is a medical intern at the Malindi Sub-County Hospital is suspected of being part of the terror group's recruitment network in Kenya.
The suspect is said have recruited students who were nabbed on April 29 at Wote Hospital, Makueni County, for allegedly plotting to use anthrax to launch terrorist attacks.
Confirming the arrest, Senior Anti-Terror Police Unit officers who took part in the operation said the two were planning to travel to join ISIS.
“They intended to move to Puntland, Somalia, to join the ISIS cell there, which is under Sheikh Muumin. The two were planning to acquire fake travel documents to facilitate their escape. We suspect they are the latest batch of university students lured to join IS in Libya and Syria,” said one of the officers, as quoted by The Star.
The officer said the terrorist group has been targeting medical students, promising them better jobs.
