The facility, the second largest in Nyanza after Jaramogi Odinga Teaching and Referral, hosts medical students from the institution and Kenya Medical and Training College (KMTC).

On Tuesday, majority of students expressed their displeasure on the services offered in the facility, claiming that they may be rendered incompetent in the long run.

“We have many students - clinical or medical officers - on attachment from other institutions. On top, KMTC students are carrying their practical in level six, making it difficult for us to have adequate time in the facility,” said a student, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation.

“The doctors and nurses handling us find the job tedious and end up encouraging us to try on our own. I am very afraid that we may end up out of this place unfit to serve in the society,” added the source.

However, the institution’s management has labelled the claims as ‘immature and detrimental', adding that the medical institution had assured them of exemplary supervision.

“I really don’t understand such immature and detrimental claims. We entered into a MoU with the hospital and I understand it is doing a good job. It is just those who are not ready to study raising such baseless allegations,” said Prof Maurice Amutabi, DVC in charge of academics.
