A section of residents from Manga region, Borabu Constituency on Wednesday condemned Nyansiongo District hospital medics for ‘laxity’ in handling emergency cases.
According to residents, most nurses and doctors in the hospital take long before responding to emergency cases especially at night.
Elias Ochong’a, a victim of the alleged neglect, said most doctors especially those on duty at night delay in attending patients.
“I was rushed to this hospital two weeks ago at midnight and it took several hours for nurses on duty to attend and subsequently admit me,” said Ochong’a.
The allegations resulted in an impromptu meeting by the hospital’s management to give the way forward to the area residents.
Chief Medical officer in the hospital Dr Joel Ongaro defended his staff from the scathing attacks terming them malicious and untrue.
“We have received the claims but am unable to ascertain their authenticity and credibility. In my tenure as the head medical officer here, I never found my staff committing such grave mistakes,” said Ongaro.
He said the management will investigate the claim and take appropriate actions against medical officers found guilty.
“We will not dismiss the claims but it is necessary to do comprehensive investigations before we take action,” he added.
