Two medics in Kikuyu Sub County were on Saturday arrested for selling cholera vaccines provided by the government to be offered to the public for free. Speaking on Saturday, the Kikuyu OCPD Mr Mutune Maweu confirmed the incident. He said the two are going to set an example to others who may still be engaging in the crime. The two, he said, were arrested at around 9am after some members of the public tipped the police. Mr Maweu said investigation are still on to ensure that the public gets what they deserve for free adding no individual will illegally benefit from the vaccines.
“I want to thank the members of the public for working closely with the police to ensure this menace is curbed. I urge the public to keep up the good relation with the police in an effort to fight crime. However, to those medics still engaging in the crime, we are still hunting for you,” said the police boss.
He said the two medics will be charged before a court of law. Ms Catherine Mwende, a Kikuyu resident, said that she had bought the vaccine for Sh100.
She said she went to the clinic knowing that it was for free but to her shock she was made to pay Sh100 for it. “I had to pay Sh200 for me and my son. I am glad that this will not happen to other residents thanks to the police effort to curb this crime,” said Mwende.
