Did you know that apart from Oscar Award winner Lupita Nyong'o and opposition's National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader Miguna Miguna, Kisumu county is still home to some of the nation's most popular personalities?
Here they are;
1. Hezekiah Ochuka
The departed Airforce soldier is said to have led the 1982 attempted coup against retired President Daniel Moi.
The coup would hours later be suppressed by soldiers loyal to the President, under the leadership of Chief of General Staff Mohamoud Mohammed.
He was hanged in 1987 after he was convicted of treason and sentenced to death.
He hails from Nyakatch in Kisumu county and attended the nearby Naki Kabete Primary and Mirogi Secondary schools before his recruitment into the forces in 1976.
2. Wallah Bin Wallah
The renowned author and Swahili language Guru also hails from the Nyakatch constituency in Kisumu county.
He switched his name from Ndeda, which was given to him by his parents, to Wallah and adopted his father's Wallah name as well to make it Wallah Bin Wallah.
Wallah studied in Tanzania before returning to concentrate on his authoring and teaching jobs and is the brain behind a number of nationally accepted books, including 'Kickeko Cha Maiti' and 'Wema Wa Sanda'.
3. Luanda Magere
The legendary Luo warrior is said to have roamed the lands of Kano plains, modern-day Muhoroni constituency in Kisumu county, during the ancient times.
He is said to have possessed a rocky body which prevented spears and arrows from penetrating his flesh and was of great help to the Luos in fights with the neighbouring communities.
