Born 23 years ago, Cynthia Kerubo’s passion to educate, entertain and more fundamentally to speak on behalf of weak in the society has never diminished.
And to achieve this, journalism was the only breakthrough for the talented young writer whose career blossomed during her days at Day Star University.
“When growing up, I always believed that we can have social-economic change through proper articulation of real issues and definitely, journalism was my perfect landing,” Kerubo, popularly known as Amina says.
Her career can be traced back during old days at Kereri Girls where she edited a Christian outlet- Behind the Horizon and subsequent publications with Day star Campus Magazine.
She could later on be rewarded by the Star Newspaper as contributing Editor in one of the country’s top newspaper publishers.
“As a journalist, I have worked with a number of leading media houses among the Star where I have worked for two years,” adds Kerubo.
But her zeal to produce online content has even bettered her career, prompting her to sign with Kenya’s online newspaper, Hivisasa.com which publishes only online content.
“I was introduced to Hivisasa.com in 2015 by a friend after which I signed. I spent few days writing before I halted due to pressing assignments. I would later start sending my content early this year,” she says.
Other than receiving Sh100 per article published, Kerubo has become a house hold name by becoming a regular winner of weakly bonuses which at times ranges up to Sh1500 per article.
Although human interest content has been a driving force behind a glittering career, Kerubo also writes politics, sports and general news stories.
Hivisasa.com provides avenue for showcasing of raw talent and subsequent nurturing of upcoming young writers not only within Kenya but also behind borders.
Kerubo, a staunch fan of European football giants Manchester United, encourages institutions of higher learning to encourage online journalism due to its market appeal.
