When her job ended at the Tuffoam Mattress in Kisumu town, Lucy Anyango Bolo was not aware that she would venture into selling boiled eggs and fried groundnuts in order to make a living.
She bought 10 eggs, boiled them and started moving from place to place with no one in particular to sell to.
“That was in 2016 shortly after my three-year-job at the Tuffoam came to an abrupt end. On that particular day, I did not get enough customers to buy all the 10 eggs but I did not give up,” said the 28 year old Anyango.
The married mother of four children said that as days went by, she started attracting a large number of customers. “I moved from the initial 10 eggs to where I am today,” she said.
Today, she prepares three-crates of boiled eggs plus four kilograms of groundnuts.
“I normally move from street to street and office to office selling the eggs and grounds. I start in the morning and by 1.00 pm am done,” she added.
The three crates of eggs brings her Sh900, while the 4 kilograms of groundnuts fetches her Sh600 daily. That means her daily profit is a cool Sh1, 500 per day.
She operates the business from Monday to Friday, hence making a profit of Sh7, 000 for the five days. That makes it Sh30, 000 in a month.
“Business is good. I thank God because I have enough customers. I am very stable financially compared to when I was employed,” says Lucy Anyango who resides in Kisumu’s Nyawita estate.
Her prayer is to one day open an eggs depot so that she can be supplying to various customers in Kisumu.
