If Gertrude Mwanyanje Mbeyu plays her cards well, she will be sworn in as the next Kilifi Woman Representative to succeed the incumbent Aisha Jumwa, who has decided to forge a new political path. The Kibarani Ward MCA could be walking to political greatness in the next two months if she clinches the seat in the August elections.A teacher by profession, Mbeyu joined the murky political world in the 2013 elections where she won the MCA seat. And with the mentorship of the firebrand Aisha Jumwa, she has honed her political skills even as she spreads her political tentacles. Her growing influence in the county politics was confirmed during the ODM nominations when she clinched the party ticket after garnering 32,054 votes against her nearest challenger Juliet Riziki who polled 28,722.After bagging the precious ODM ticket, she acknowledged the role played by Jumwa in her political life.Following her win, Mbeyu is convinced that the time for women to take on men in leadership has come and challenged other women to come out and try their luck in politics.Mbeyu is the Chairperson of the Scholarship and Vocational Training Committee in the Kilifi County Assembly.
