The coming of US president Barack Obama had been symbolised and signified by many as a move that will make a big difference in lives of Kenyans.
A group of women in Kisii County were not left behind. Shockingly they are still waiting for Obama goodies.
The group of women who rare goats as their primary source of income said they were approached by an alleged ‘Nairobian’ who worked for an NGO that helped groups at the local level to access funds and sponsorship.
After going through their projects and ‘inspecting’ them he promised that he was going to table their projects when the president of the United States comes and he would personally see to it that they got sponsorship as the US president needed 30 groups that he would give ‘goodies’.
The deal was a good one and the locals fell for his professional way on how he ‘handled documents’. He took records of the documents of the ladies including how much money they had raised all along and their id numbers. He also took a photo of them.
After all the processes the alleged man demanded Sh10,000 for ‘registration’ and Sh2000 as bus fare.
Since then they have never seen nor heard from the man.
It is alleged he may have also conned other groups in the region ahead of the coming of the US president.
“We did not suspect the man was conning us in any way as he came with one of the wazee of the village who convinced us to take the opportunity,” said Eunice Mochoge.
The identity of the man is not well known but he alleged to work for an NGO that alleviated local groups at the local level.
The locals are still hoping he would return with the Obama ‘goodies’ especially after draining all their savings.
