[Photo/Busia County Government]An upcoming sprinter has been identified in Kenya.Born in Nang'oma sub location in Matayos Sub County, Busia county, Moses Wasike 23, is Busia's emerging sprinter.The young talent was identified by coach James Seurei.Wasike has now landed an invitation to train at Kibiswet Athletics Club in Eldoret. This is after he emerged position three during trials in Eldoret when he featured as a guest runner in 100m race.Wasike, who wants to emulate Jamaican star Hussein Bolt, said he was impressed by his performance at the trials. But in order for him to make his dreams come true, the upcoming sprinter is in need financial support.Wasike is seeking to raise at least Sh100,000 for his training.In an interview with journalists on Monday, Wasike expressed optimism in raising not only the profile of Busia county but also that of Kenya.He however notes that this can only happen if he gets support."My dreams to raise the profile of Busia County will depend on the support I will get. I am in top form to enter my county into the annals of history," Wasike said during the interview.
The emerging athlete also features in 200m race.With the instant invitation to join the training camp, Wasike becomes the second athlete from Busia County to be selected to join the high altitude training camps in Rift Valley.The first athlete from the county to be selected was Half Marathon runner Pamela Amojong, who is currently at Iten Training Camp.A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Well, the young Busia athlete did not just begin running the other day.Wasike started his career back in 2011. This was when he joined form one at Murende Secondary School.During that year, Wasike reached the provincial level in 100 and 200m race where he finished third.In 2012, Wasike raised his school's flag high after he reached nationals. Apart from from qualifying to the national level, he took the first position.Wasike still made his school proud once again in 2013 after he reached the provincial level and finished in the first position.However, he did not proceed to the national games after he sustained a knee fracture following an accident he was involved in. In 2014, Wasike being a candidate, stayed out of action in order for him to concentrate on his exams.After his exams, Wasike joined a college in Eldoret in 2015 to pursue Diploma in Information Technology. While in the institution, Wasike resumed training, thus attracting the attention of coaches.The Oscar award winner Lupita Nyong'o once said, "All dreams are valid." If indeed his dream comes true, Wasike could be the next world beater in short races.
