Former Laikipia University student leader James Gathungu, 24, could go down to history books as Kenya's youngest Deputy Governor hopeful after he was named running mate to Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Miguna Miguna.
Gathungu graduated in 2015 from the institution with a Bachelor of Science in Statistics.
Speaking on Saturday at the Intercontinental Hotel shortly after his unveiling, Gathungu exuded confidence that they will win the City's top seat during the August polls.
In his nomination acceptance speech, Gathungu pledged to inject youth blood into Nairobi's politics, leadership and governance.
"I do appreciate the honour and I hope we will lead the county with integrity it deserves. We have to make a choice between cartels and people of integrity," he said.
Miguna is set to vie as an independent candidate.
He defended his move to settle on a youth as running mate, pledging transformative leadership if elected.
“Kenyans have functioning brains. They can tell the difference between a transformative leadership and one based on impunity," he noted.
