22-year old James Karanja is one of the few youths in Kisii who has monetized his talents.

He is a renowned hype man and a DJ.

Karanja who was raised by a single mother joined the entertainment industry after he became desperate of a job. 

According to him, he started his career in 2014 after joining University. 

He then enrolled for DJ classes. 

"I was desperate and I decided to use my talent to earn. I started humbly but now I am doing well," he said.

Karanja now works in various clubs within Kisii town and in coperate venues both in the public and private sector. 

In his line of duty, Karanja is able to pocket more than Sh 40,000 monthly depending on the kind of gigs he does.  

This has enabled him pay his university fees, clear his bills and support his grandmother financially.

"I work especially during the weekends and i cash more than Sh 40,000. But this amount is not constant as the functions may vary each month," he said.

However, he has faced various challenges in his job which has made him learn various lessons in the entertainment industry.

"Before i grew up to this level, I offered services freely because people did no believe in me," he said.

He advises the youth to be passionate, dedicated and disciplined in whatever they do to ensure their dreams come true.

"Have passion and discipline and success will follow," he said.
