There is a man in Kisumu who has been giving education officials in the county sleepless nights.

Innocent Masara shot to the lime light when he began agitating for change in the manner in which education matters are run in the county.

Mr Masara has been on top of education matters within the county, sending shock waves to the Teachers Service Commission county officers and the Ministry of Education officers.

He is determined to bring the desired change in the education sector within the county which he said was in a sorry state.

His ambition to scale-up education standards in the county has seen him sponsor students to secondary schools after missing out on county bursary allocation.

Masara is currently fighting unnecessary fees being levied by school Principals to carry out capacity building on teachers and for induction of Schools’ Board of Management.

The monies are being levied at a time schools had set out their budgets and there are fears, the burden will be reverted to parents who are already on their knees paying school fees for their children.

Masara is constantly on phone seeking clarifications from the TSC Director and the ministry officials at the headquarters in Nairobi in an attempt to save the Principals from exploitation by the education officials at the county.

The officers now know that there is a Big Brother watching.

But who is this man?

Masara holds Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Pontifica University Delia Santa Croce in Rome and another in education from the University of Nairobi.

He attained a Master of Arts degree in International Studies from the same university.

Masara taught at Loreto and Mang’u schools before he ventured into active business.

He is the Director of Track One Alliance Learners Protection, a lobby that aims at addressing inequalities in the education sector.

As a former teacher, Masara has remained steadfast in ensuring the education sector in the county is taken to greater heights.
