The search for the next Chief Justice of Kenya is on. This is after Willy Mutunga resigned as the CJ and the president of the supreme court of Kenya last month.
The vacant position has attracted 14 applicants, who have since been reduced to 6 by the judicial service commission.
Even as the fight for CJ is still on, what many people might not know is the late Kamba politician Kitili Maluki Mwendwa.
Maluki went down in history as the first African Chief Justice of independent Kenya.
The Daily Nation of August 5, 2013 described him as the "man who had shortest stint as CJ.
"Indeed, Maluki only served as the CJ for only 3 years from July 3, 1968 to 1971.
He also goes down in history as the youngest CJ as he was only 39 when he was appointed CJ.
He later won Kitui central member of parliament before succumbing to a road accident in 1985.
Just like Mutunga, Maluki also resigned as the CJ.This was after he was accused of a plot to overthow Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's government.
