The youngster, who has had a scintillating season so far, was feted on Wednesday, during a ceremony held at Mbaraki Sports Complex in Mombasa.

Wambani has further revealed how he would love to step in the footsteps of Kenyan captain Victor Wanyama and hopes to one day captain the national team.

“I realise that the position I play is similar to Wanyama’s and I never miss a Tottenham game so as to see how he plays because one day I want to take his position on the national team,” Wambani underscored at the presentation ceremony held at Mbaraki Sports.

The 18-year-old becomes the first recipient of the gong this term that comes with a hefty cash award of KSh100,000 from the leading bookmakers, a 49-inch smart television from partners LG and a trophy.

Wambani’s list of impressive early season performances includes a man-of-the-match show against 2009 champions Sofapaka FC where he bagged a brace.

Wambani garnered 18 ballots from the SJAK panel vote to take the February honours ahead of Mathare United FC striker, Crispin Oduor (16) and Gor leading marksman, Meddie Kagere (14) in third.
