Luo Nyanza boasts of a set of strong and influential politicians whose influence is not only limited to the region, but embraced nationally.
Some of these have been in the arena for long enough to confidently narrate historical political events and have succeeded in maintaining their political touch.
Here are some of them;
1. Raila Odinga
The opposition leader who is currently in his early 70s joined politics in 1992, as a political activist, and has worked his way up over the time.
The long time Presidential hopeful has, over the time, served as the Langa'ta parliamentarian, been in the cabinet, was at one point co-heading the Grand Coalition government before landing on the opposing side.
2. James Orengo
The Siaya Senator marked his entry into elective politics in 1980, clinching the Ugenya parliamentary seat aged only 29.
His closeness to Odinga, after their fallout in 2002, has seen him retain his relevance, defending his seat in the concluded election period without campaigning at all.
3. Anyang' Nyong'o
The Kisumu Governor joined politics early enough to witness Odinga's tribulations during his confrontations with the Nyayo era in the early 1990's.
He has also served as the Kisumu rural lawmaker and Health minister in the past.
