The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), is the most popular political party in Kisumu and enjoys a massive support from the citizens.
In last year's election, many people expected the party to make a clean sweep in the different elective seats but a Maseno University alumni went against the wave and destroyed the party.
Shakeel Shabbir, a previous member of ODM humilated the party in the August 2017 election when he won a parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.
He was a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) since 2007, but fell out with the party in 2017 after losing in its nominations.
He went on and vied for the seat as an independent candidate and emerged the winner making him the Member of Parliament for Kisumu East constituency for the third consecutive term.
The MP is an alumni of Maseno University where he studied and acquired a Masters Degree in Political Science.
