Kenneth Kimani, a 22-year-old student from Moi university is a young ambitious man who has gone against all odds to be independent.
"I feel it is bad for a grown up man like me to call home every end month to ask for rent, I decided to let my parents support young ones as I help my self," said Kimani in an Interview on Thursday.
He added: "I feel guilty when I see grown ups disturbing their parents that they should send money weekly."
He started out hawking eggs, chapati and coffee to make ash for himself.
Currently, the third born in a family of six and a third year Bachelor of Science student said he now fully supports himself.
"It was in 2014 during a graduation ceremony in our campus, when I started my business.
He said he started with three crates of eggs and sold all of them.7
"This motivated me to venture in business," said Kimani.
Although he says he faces a lot of challenges during his business time, he said he is determined to succeed.
"There was a time when school fee exhausted all the money, I was only left with Sh90, so I used Sh70 to buy baking flour and Sh20 for cooking oil, I made chapati and sold them to campus students," said Kimani.
He added: "In my mission to exploit more better business opportunities I moved to Eldoret town in 2014 and started hawking cofee."
According to Kimani, a cup of coffee goes for Sh10 and he sells at least 25 litres everyday.
"I make a profit of about Sh900 per day minus the expenditure which is about Sh550 which I use to buy coffee, sugar and plastic cups," he said.
"I always operate my business from 3pm to 9:30pm and for that reason I pay Sh50 daily tax to Uasin Gishu County government because I am a hawker," he added.
He advised his jobless peers to take the initiative and employ themselves.
"M advice to the young people is that they should make the best CV, but they should not limit themselves to it because there is a lot one can do to start small and grow to greatness," he said.
“It is not good to stay idle, there is a lot that youth can do even with as little as Sh100."
