James Orengo, the Siaya senator, is known for his passionate support for ODM party both in technical and legal issues.
With ODM primaries just around the corner, Orengo remained cool in Nairobi where he was involved in high level consultation meetings in the formation of NASA government.
And the legal mogul, who sits at the NASA coordinating committee, would have his efforts rewarded later on Thursday when NASA unveils its flag bearer.
But the veteran politician, despite keeping off nominations campaigns, he floored his opponents in ODM nominations after scooping slightly over 140,000 votes.
Having been elected to parliament in 1980, Orengo spent most of his time in police cells or in exile while fighting for installation of multiparty democracy, which was realized in 1990.
During the struggle, Orengo, a former powerful University of Nairobi student leader, was labeled ‘seven bearded sisters’ by former Attorney General Charles Njonjo, a term he used to refer to seven youthful MPs who were considered rebels.
In recent years, Senator Orengo, a confident of ODM leader Raila Odinga, has directed his energy towards strengthening of devolved governments.
