Opposition leader Raila Odinga remains one of the most experienced and skilled political leaders in the nation.
However, with old age creeping in, currently in his early 70, the National Super Alliance (NASA) chief is likely to soon call it quits in the political arena.
Currently placed at the helm of the vote-rich Luo Nyanza region, the former Premier will, therefore, have to pass the baton to another leader, most likely from the region.
Here are some of the individuals likely to succeed him as the Luo kingpin;
1. James Orengo
The Siaya Senator is deemed Odinga's closest handler and confidant.
His long stay in the political field and closeness to the leader has seen him rise to one of the most popular leaders in the region, even going ahead to secure a re-election without campaigning at all.
This has further been boosted by his successful representation of the veteran leader in his petition against President Uhuru Kenyatta's August 8 reelection.
His sharp legal brain and knowledge of the Kenyan political scene makes him one of the best people to succeed Odinga once he retires.
2. Otiende Amollo
The youthful Rarieda lawmaker is also likely to take over as the Luo Nyanza point man basing on his political brilliance.
The excellent lawyer made shocking revelations on the trend allegedly used to rig Odinga out in the contested August poll, making him a darling among Raila's supporters.
Barely a year in office, the MP has made a lot of development in Rarieda with the main one being construction of better houses for his constituents.
He is also an active participant of crucial debates in parliament.
His brilliance and good development track record lands him in the list of the possible next Luo chiefs.
3. Glady's Wanga
Another vocal leader who has always backed Odinga in all his political endeavours and was very useful in the veteran politician's previous futile bid.
The Homa Bay Women Representative has also proved her leadership skills, securing a re-election in the concluded poll.
She is one of the country's top women politicians at the moment, and is a darling to many Nyanza residents and Kenyans at large.
Her outspoken and daring nature would be very useful for the post.
