There was song and dance after a Nyeri-based teacher was crowned as the teacher of year 2017 in the just concluded Teacher if The Year Awards held Mombasa County.
Students and the entire teaching fraternity of Mahiga Girls in Othaya celebrated the victory of Phyllis Muchiri with songs and dance.
Muchiri is the school's Deputy Principal, discipline master, the Kiswahili and Geography teacher as well as the drama teacher.
Her Kiswahili class topped the charts in the region and the school president Laureen Mwangi describes her as a mother to them and she deserved the trophy.
Muchiri said that her childhood dream was to be a teacher and works to produce all rounded students as she lives her childhood dream, as reported by Capital FM.
She attributes her success to cooperation within the school community and the greatest challenge for her is striking the balance between disciplining the students and being a mentor to them.
With the latest modern technology, Muchiri has also lamented on the influence of social media on her students that affects their performance.
Her word to fellow teachers and those aspiring to be teachers is to be dedicated in their duties and observe high level of discipline.
She states that her 15 year journey to the top for Muchiri has taken commitment and hard work traits which she works to pass on to her students.
