She is among the little celebrated Kenyan heroines whom apart from participating in the freedom struggle, also pioneered in many sectors of post-independent Kenya.
Muthoni Likimani broke many glass ceilings to for instance become the first African woman to establish a successful Public Relations company.
She was also the first Kenyan beauty queen to feature in beauty products as well as one of the pioneer female authors with her first literally work published in 1969.
Likimani had trained as a teacher initially and even taught at Kahuhia Teachers’ Training College before going for further studies in Britain, after which she ended up in media and public relations.
American Institute listed Likimani as one of 'the most influential women of 21st Century'.
She is termed as a 'brilliant storyteller', a title she earned through her authoritative book: Mau Mau and Women in Kenya which clearly brings out the role of women in the freedom struggle.
Other literally works include 'They shall be Chastised' (1974), children's books, poems among others.
Likimani is now 92 and was born in Muranga County.
