Majority of the people globally believe in the existence of a supreme being who is, however, invisible.
However, this is not the case among members of the Legio Mariae religious sect, who believe and acknowledge the founder of the movement Melkio Simeo Odetto as their god.
As Christians await the return of Jesus Christ as is contained in the holy book, members of the church believe that he already came in the form of Odetto who to them is the Messiah.
He is said to have at one point performed a miracle and is alleged to have molded a bull from soil before breathing life into it during his boyhood days, with the creature going ahead to live, a scenario that was reportedly witnessed by his fellow children according to Mathew Kustenbauder's book 'Believing In The Black Messiah'.
When he died in 1992, Ondetto's followers pitched camp by his grave in Got Kwer, Migori county, awaiting his resurrection but left when he refused to resurrect, but they still visit the site which has been named 'Calvary' for pilgrimage.
Before he founded the church at around the same time Kenya attained her independence, Ondetto is said to have undergone a life of hardship and was infested with jiggers and lice throughout his childhood.
