Luanda Magere is believed to have roamed the lands of Kano Plains in Sidho, modern day Muhoroni constituency in Kisumu county in the precolonial days.

He lived at a time when the Luos and their Nandi neighbours were the worst of enemies and used to conduct livestock rustling raids on each other.

The strong Magere's body was made of stone, making it impossible for spears and arrows to pierce through his flesh and reportedly had the ability to tear apart an entire enemy's army.

As a result of this, he always led his people in combating the Nandi and the Luos won each time, throwing Nandi elders into consultations on how to contain him.

They then resoled to offer him a beautiful lady for a wife, who was under instructions to spy on the warrior and send home any information that would help them defeat him and despite warnings from Luo elders, Magere accepted the offer.

The secret came out one day when he was sick and since his first wife who was Luo wasn't around, he ordered the younger wife to pierce his shadow and instil the medicine and on seeing the shadow bleeding, the wife sent the information to his people.

In the next encounter, a Nandi warrior speared Magere's shadow and the warrior fell down bleeding and died with his body instantly turning into a rock that is still present in the area.

The site was later transformed into a museum.
